Whale Watching

I booked the family package here for July 2nd and 3rd. It comes with whale watching, 2 nights accommodation, family bike rental, 2 breakfasts and 2 bagged lunches. How cool is that!

This area is rich in marine life (whale watching, resident seal colony) and is part of the Atlantic Flyway bird migration making it a "world class bird watching destination". The area has long been visited by naturalists who regularly spot rare and endangered plants.  Rock hounds will be impressed with the many types of rock formations and can find quartz, agate, jasper, amethyst and even zeolite.  An area truly unspoiled, off the beaten track and deeply steeped in maritime tradition. (Home of the famous Joshua Slocum, the first person to sail solo around the world in 1895 on the Spray a 37’ sloop). Brier Island offers many coastal trails to explore both easy and challenging for hikers on short or extended visits.

Whale Watching

This might be cool - we have to take a couple of ferries to get there but we could stay on the island as well.

It is also joining a scientific survey studying an area teeming with marine life. The cruises yield important information on endangered or rare species of whales like the Humpback, Finback and Right Whales, and on other species of Cetaceans (whales, dolphins and porpoises) and on seabirds.

The cottage we are staying at!
